At just 25 years old, he's the youngest artist at PerformanceProcess. The subject of his performances is his own work, approached via references, models, art history, artists' careers, or the very nature of performance as a medium.

For this project, Darren Roshier explores the idea of different temporalities in a single three-act performance—preparation, performance, and archive. The idea is to create his own chapter in the history of Swiss performance art, and to enter that chapter in the context of the PerformanceProcess programme.
Darren Roshier is associate artist at Le FAR in Nyon.

Performance art laid bare

Artist Darren Roshier explores the mechanisms of performance and his place in the history of the medium.

By using humour and playing with the idea of performance, Darren Roshier subtly encourages us to take a journey, exploring the showy side of art. A character with a cheerful face, a well-kempt beard and schoolboy shorts, our performer takes hold of a subject, raises an issue, and valiantly explores the neurotic colours of what can be described as an "attempt".

On the margins of scientific parchment and anachronistic fairy tales, the ingrdients used in his alchemy of performance reveal, via a discursive story, a sometimes analytical, sometimes critical response to the processes and operating modes that govern our cultural judgments. By laying bare the methods and processes of performance, Darren Roshier paints a portrait of a human situation humaine and embarks upon a curious, intimate social experience.

Tentative d'entrer dans l'histoire de la performance suisse [An attempt to go down in the history of Swiss performance art] is three-act piece that crystallises preparation, performance itself, and the traces it leaves behind, seen as the structural planks of a project designed and defined as a  “performance”. Reflecting the pattern of the exhibition itself, the visitor will implicitly follow a personal story closely linked to this history. Following in the footsteps of the present moment, the artist pursues his reasoning in search of knowledge relating to the possible detours to be made via memory and the heritage of history.
